Course details

Oral cancer is a growing concern worldwide, with approximately 300,000 cases diagnosed each year. This disease has a high morbidity and mortality rate, making early detection and treatment crucial for the successful management of the disease. As dental professionals are often the first point of contact for patients, they play a critical role in identifying and managing oral cancer.

This online course aims to provide dental professionals with comprehensive education and awareness in oral cancer screening for early detection in response to this important issue. The course is designed to equip learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to identify the different types of oral cancers, differential diagnoses, and anatomical variations. The role of the dental team in the detection and treatment of suspected cancers is also addressed, with an emphasis on effective communication and referral pathways.

Moreover, the course will guide learners on how to carry out a screening examination, including best practices for intraoral and extraoral examinations.

This 60-minute course is a mandatory part of the continuing professional development (CPD) cycle for all GDC-registered dental professionals. By completing this course, you will not only fulfil the GDC requirements, but you will also be equipped to provide the highest standard of care to your patients.
