Part one: fitness to practise and the GDC

Part one of this premium course on medicolegal considerations in practice will cover the registrant's journey through a fitness to practise hearing and the GDC process.

The aim of this module is to help colleagues understand how the GDC operates but more importantly highlight what is expected of a registrant should they become a subject of a fitness to practise investigation.

The second part of this course will delve into minimising risk through communication, consent and shared decision making.

Part four: ethics in dentistry

Ethics is an integral part of our work and underpins the way we communicate and manage our patients. This module looks at situations that one may face in a clinical setting. Where uncertainty exists, the indemnity organisation should always be consulted.

Part five: mastering complaints

This module has looked at the origin of complaints and how it can impact on our mental wellbeing and performance. the management of complaints is equally as important if not more and this will extend to adverse outcomes.

Part six: medicolegal awareness and dental implants

This module is aimed at raising medicolegal awareness amongst practitioners involved in or who are about to embark on the journey of providing implants as an option. There are many areas of assessment required and all minefields need to be covered in detail to ensure the patient has been fully informed and consented and educated about the procedure.

Part seven: vicarious liability and non-delegable duty

This module will look at the clear definitions of vicarious liability and non-delegable duty. Case examples will be shared of recent court cases and how the judge found in the favour of the claimant/defendant. Learning from these examples, delegates will be able to implement measures to minimise the risks of such claims arising.
